CLIMBING IN SOLLER
CLIMBING IN SOLLER
Long or short routes, vertical walls and Needles, the Tramontana is full of esciting surprises.
Climbing is one of the sports most practised on the island and an increasing amount of people spend a few days in Majorca to practise this sport.
What’s more, lots of residents are already addicted to climbing in view of the fact that the island has the conditions which make it one of the best landscapes for practising all kinds of variants of this sport.
The whole coastline of the western area of Majorca is covered by a mountainous chain of limestone rock which is known as Sierra de Tramuntana.
Although there are no great dizzying heights, the 1447 m of altitude attained by Puig Major are no joke. This mountain, which is the highest on the island, is situated between the settlements of Sóller and Pollença between two artificial lakes right in the heart of Tramuntana in the middle of immense Majorcan mountains. A unique scenario for carrying out this sport.
Another aspect which makes Majorca into a prime tourist destination for climbers is the quality of the rock as it has some qualities which are unique for climbing. There is a great variability of routes followed which adapt to all levels and different types of climbing, in addition to the fact that the climatology of Majorca allows this sport to be practised all the year round.
